In May, over 75,000 people visited Munich for Transport Logistics, the international exhibition for logistics, mobility, IT and supply chain management, the world’s largest logistics trade fair and a vital forum for everyone in the industry. Naturally, SCA Logistics was in attendance. “We showed our freight forwarding services in Germany and our Ro-Ro routes – as well as taking the opportunity to meet customers and partners,” says SCA Logistics Sales Manager Tomas Andersson.

Trade fairs in the logistics industry differ from many other trade fairs in as much as they deal with services rather than products.
“The emphasis is on networking. We in the logistics industry are dependent on one another and on having good partners. Most of us are both buyers and sellers and we need to identify the right companies with which to collaborate to stitch together efficient global transport,” says Tomas.
With everyone gathered in Munich for Transport Logistics, the days are intensive and packed with meetings.
“For example, I met with pretty much every potential tanker and break-bulk supplier. This was valuable as we will be expanding significantly in this sector once the new container port in Sundsvall is operational.”

SCA highlights its Ro-Ro routes

Transport Logistics attracted 2,320 exhibitors from 67 countries. SCA Logistics shared a stand with the Port of Kiel.
“We informed visitors that we are a major buyer of road freight forwarding services in the Kiel area. It was also an opportunity to market our Ro-Ro vessels, which run on a regular timetable calling at ports such as Kiel, Sundsvall and Umeå. This is a highly efficient and sustainable alternative for shipping goods from Germany to the green industrial boom in northern Sweden. Investments in the north entail a high demand for the transportation of both project cargoes and raw materials,” says Tomas.
Efficient solutions for shipping to Vaasa in Finland were also highlighted.
“Vaasa and the surrounding area is another expansive area with several major investments being planned. SCA Logistics offers flexible transport solutions, as our Ro-Ro lines call at Umeå from where there are ferry connections to Vaasa,” explains Tomas.

An annual event

Transport Logistics is an annual event, usually held in Europe and Asia in alternate years. Due to the pandemic, however, the last event was four years ago, so the opportunity to meet was especially welcome. The trade fair is wide-ranging, covering everything from railways, heavy goods vehicles, ports and terminals to air transport and IT. The exhibition space is 127,000 square metres across 10 halls. Sustainability was recurring theme among exhibitors, with a considerable focus on climate-smart fuels and electric vehicles. “One of the fair’s main advantages is that it is so comprehensive,” says Mikael Toft, Sourcing Manager at SCA Sourcing and Logistics.
