On October 28, 2022, SCA and Holmen communicated that the companies intended to carry out a feasibility study for a jointly owned sawmill in Rundvik, Västerbotten County in Sweden.
Pär Boman declines re-election as the chairman of the board for Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA). Boman remains the board’s chairman until the annual general meeting on March 22, 2024.
SCA and Persson Invest began their collaboration around Gällö Timber and the sawmill in Gällö, Jämtland in 2010. Since 2010, significant investments have been made in the sawmill to develop its operations and strengthen its competitiveness. Today, the sawmill has 115 employees and a capacity of 370,000 cubic meters of sawn timber.

Kristina Enander, President of SCA’s Pulp business area, will assume the role of Senior Vice President Strategic Development on May 1, 2023. In addition to overall responsibility for driving SCA's strategic development, the role also includes responsibility for research and development, the Group's technical department, and the Group's IT operations. Enander has worked at SCA since 1993.
January–March 2023 compared with January–March 2022 · Net sales amounted to SEK 4,813m (5,015). The decrease was mainly related to lower selling prices for solid-wood products and containerboard. · EBITDA declined 21% to SEK 2,055m (2,608). The change was mainly attributable to lower selling prices. Growth in renewable energy and strong earnings in forest operations, primarily based on a high degree of self-sufficiency in wood raw material, had a positive impact on earnings. EBITDA margin was 42.7% (52.0). · Operating profit amounted to SEK 1,596m (2,223). · Operating cash flow increased to SEK 1,203m (1,143) and continued to finance ongoing strategic capital expenditures. · Earnings per share was SEK 1.74 (2.45). January–March 2023 compared with October–December 2022 · Net sales amounted to SEK 4,813m (4,873). The change was mainly attributable to lower selling prices for pulp and containerboard, which were offset by higher delivery volumes. · Higher delivery volumes and growth in renewable energy had a positive earnings effect. EBITDA increased 4% to SEK 2,055m (1,981). Good control over SCA’s own value chain with a high degree of self-sufficiency in wood, energy and logistics yielded a controlled cost development. EBITDA margin increased to 42.7% (40.6).

SCA has acquired its first wind farm with the purchase of 36 wind turbines in Markbygden in Piteå municipality, northern Sweden. The acquisition is in line with the company’s previously stated goal of becoming one of the Sweden’s leading providers of fossil-free electricity generated by wind power. Twenty per cent of Sweden's installed wind power capacity is currently located on land owned by SCA.

SCA and Holmen have today agreed to conduct a feasibility study regarding a potential new jointly owned sawmill in Rundvik, Nordmaling municipality in Västerbotten. A new sawmill in Norrland with high production capacity would increase the value of forest assets in the long term.
SCA will introduce a new reporting segment – Renewable Energy – from January 1, 2023. The decision is in line with SCA’s stated ambition to grow and realise business opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

The increase was mainly attributable to high demand for SCA’s products, higher selling prices and increased sales to core markets. Through its own logistics company, SCA has a unique control over logistics from the forest to the customer, which has benefited delivery reliability in a turbulent period.

SCA today publishes its annual and sustainability report for 2021. In the report, SCA describes the company's work to contribute to a fossil-free society. SCA's climate benefit in 2021 amounted to 10.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide based on the forest's net carbon sequestration, substitution effect and reduced fossil emissions.

SCA has appointed Andreas Ewertz as its new CFO. Ewertz has worked at SCA since 2017, where he has been responsible for investor relations and served as head of business control for business areas Publication Paper and Pulp, respectively.
Sofia Haga has been appointed General Counsel of SCA effective August 8, 2022. Haga will be a member of SCA’s Executive Management Team. She succeeds acting General Counsel Jan Svedjebrant.

Joint press release from SCA and St1 SCA and St1 have entered a joint venture to produce and sell liquid biofuels. SCA will supply tall oil to the joint venture and will invest approximately SEK 0.6 billion in the company. SCA and St1 will be equal shareholders of the joint venture, which will itself have a 50% share in the St1 Gothenburg Biorefinery, which is now making an investment in a biorefinery with total capacity of 200,000 tonnes of liquid biofuels, estimated to a total investment cost of SEK 2.5 billion. The new biorefinery will be operational in Q2 2023.

On June 14, Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget SCA (publ) (”SCA”) issued green bonds totalling SEK 1.5 billion under its MTN-Programme and the recently established Green Bond Framework.
SCA invests SEK 50m to reduce environmental impact from its Härnösand pellet mill and to reduce discomforts for neighbours. The investments comprise among other items a wet electrical filter. The whole project will be operational by the summer 2022.

Christian Kugge of the SCA R&D Centre is to receive the Competence Development Award for 2021 from the Gunnar Sundblad Research Foundation. He is being awarded the prize for his ambition to enhance the efficiency of the process to convert lignin from the forest into high added-value chemicals.
In February 2021, the Land and Environmental Court in Östersund upheld an appeal from the Skydda Skogen (Protect the Forest) association regarding a number of harvesting notifications on SCA land in Jämtland and Härjedalen. The Court also found in favor of a harvesting ban at the harvesting sites in question. SCA is now appealing this ruling to the Supreme Land and Environmental Court.

SCA is changing the name of its business area Paper to business area Containerboard as of January 1, 2021. Following the discontinuation of its publication paper operations during the first quarter, SCA’s paper production will consist solely of packaging paper, a product with a stable and growing demand.
Sustainability is integrated in every part of SCA’s operations. In order to make long term priorities and to ensure sustainable development, SCA has established corporate objectives to be met by 2030.
SCA Wood Supply UK Ltd, which is engaged in the manufacture and distribution of timber and associated products for the Home Improvement and Builders Merchant sector in the United Kingdom, has today been divested to BSW Timber Ltd. SCA will keep its organization for the sales of wood products to industrial customers in the UK.
Hans Djurberg has been appointed SCA’s new Sustainability Director. He will be responsible for the corporate sustainability agenda in parallel to his assignment as Sustainability Manager in business area Forest. Hans will take on his new position as of November 1 2020.
The publication paper market has been structurally declining for a long time and SCA decided in September to discontinue publication paper operations at the Ortviken industrial site. The production will be phased out during the first quarter of 2021. The discontinuation resulted in one-off items with a negative effect on EBITDA of SEK -1,120m.
SCA and the textile recycling company Renewcell have signed an agreement for Renewcell to establish textile recycling at SCA’s industrial site Ortviken in Sundsvall. The operation is expected to create one hundred new jobs.

On Wednesday September 16, 2020, Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget SCA (publ) issued new bonds under the companys’ Medium Term Note programme (MTN).
SCA has signed an agreement to acquire forest land in Latvia. The acquisition comprises an area of 19,150 hectares, of which 13,100 is forest land. The purchase price is EUR 44.5m, approximately SEK 450m.
Renewcell wants to recycle textiles in Ortviken industrial area
Today, SCA decided to discontinue the production of publication paper and to invest SEK 1,45bn in the production of chemically pre-treated thermo-mechanical pulp (CTMP) at the Ortviken industrial site in Sundsvall. The decision has been preceded by consultations with employee representatives.

The Board of Directors of SCA has considered whether to propose an extraordinary general meeting to be held later in 2020 to resolve on dividend distribution. The Board of Directors has resolved that it will not render any such proposal during the remainder of 2020.

In parallel, SCA is initiating consultations with trade unions and employee representatives to discontinue the production of publication paper at the mill.

SCA has confirmed a new harvesting plan which shows that the harvesting level in the own forest will increase over the coming five years by an additional one million cubic meters per year more than the current level. The increased harvesting level gives an increased cash flow of 300-400 MSEK per year with full effect from 2025.

The corona pandemic has lead to significant short-term uncertainties for the publication paper market. This may lead the Ortviken Publication Paper mill to temporarily halt production. As a result Ortviken has entered discussions with the trade unions regarding temporary layoffs.
SCA’s Annual General Meeting of SCA was held at Hotel Södra Berget, Sundsvall. 24 shareholders took part in the meeting. Many others had chosen to participate through proxy. A number of precautionary measures had been taken to avoid potential infection.
Due to the effects of the corona pandemic, SCA’s Nomination Committe has decided to withdraw its proposal on increased Directors’ fees.
The Board of Director’s assessment of the dividend level for 2019 remains unchanged. However, as a precaution and in order to better assess the consequences of the corona pandemic, the Board has decided to withdraw its proposal to the Annual General Meeting with regard to the dividend payout. The Board intends to call for an extraordinary General Meeting later in the year for a resolution on dividend payout.

Today, March 6, SCA has published the company’s Annual Report for 2019. The report presents for the first time a measure of the company’s contribution to the local economy in Northern Sweden. Of SCA’s total disbursements for 2019 of SEK 25 billion, 53 per cent was paid out to people or organisations based in Northern Sweden.
