As Europe’s largest private forest owners, SCA has large areas of land with favourable wind conditions. For many years, we have leased forest land for wind power production, and today approximately 20 percent of Sweden’s installed wind power capacity is located on SCA’s land. We are now expanding our role in wind power by investing in renewable electricity production on our own land. Through project development, repowering and acquisitions, we are working to increase our renewable electricity production. In the coming years, we have several major investment projects planned that contribute to the energy transition and strengthen access to domestic renewable energy.

About us
SCA Renewable Energy includes operations within bioenergy, wind power and renewable fuels. Based on the resources of the forest and our land, we develop renewable energy solutions that contribute to the energy transition and strengthen access to domestic energy.
Today, approximately 65 people work within SCA Renewable Energy. Our head office is located in Sundsvall, but we operate across northern Sweden.
SCA Renewable Energy is in an exciting development phase, with several major investment projects planned in the coming years. We are a small, high-performing team characterised by a positive atmosphere, a non-prestigious way of working and a strong commitment to developing solutions for the energy systems of tomorrow.
Our operations areas
SCA Renewable Energy consists of three operation areas.
Bioenergy
By utilizing residues and by-products from the forest, SCA has grown to become one of Europe's leading producers of sustainable bioenergy. Our products are both unprocessed fuels from forests and industry, and processed fuels in the form of pellets. Our pellets are produced at several facilities in Sweden, and through collaborations we manage the sale of additional pellet volumes.
Renewable biofuels
Within SCA Renewable Energy, we develop products within next-generation fuels and green chemicals. In 2021, SCA decided to invest in a new biorefinery for biofuel production in Gothenburg together with Finnish St1. Preparations are also underway for a larger investment in biofuel production in connection with the Östrand pulp mill.
