Summer jobs at Östrand –a path to new opportunities
Every summer, SCA employs around 400 summer workers. At the Östrand pulp mill, a number of them get the opportunity to experience working life in areas including production, maintenance, laboratory work, quality and marketing.
Cassandra, Astrid and Charlie are some of this year’s summer workers at Östrand. They come from different backgrounds and have varying levels of experience. Some are here for the first time, while others have returned after previous summers at Östrand. Several have also connected with SCA through internships, Tekniksprånget or upper secondary education programmes.
A workplace where you can learn
Working at Östrand provides an insight into a complex industry where many different parts need to work together. For the summer workers, it is an opportunity to put theory into practice and gain experience of how a large-scale factory operates.
The tasks vary depending on the department – from workshop work and preventive maintenance to sampling, laboratory work and marketing activities.
“No two days are the same, so it’s really fun and educational,” says Charlie.
A place where It’s easy to ask questions
One thing that comes up repeatedly when the summer workers describe Östrand is the positive atmosphere. Colleagues are welcoming, and it is easy to ask for help and questions.
“You feel like one of the employees, not just a summer worker,” says Astrid.
Several also highlight the sense of community in the workplace. For many, it is the colleagues who make the working days especially enjoyable.
Maybe the future starts here
For several of the summer workers, their time at Östrand has sparked thoughts about a future with SCA. The large organisation offers many different career paths and opportunities to develop over time.
A summer job does not have to be only about gaining work experience in the short term. It can also be a way to discover new interests, build a network and become aware of opportunities you did not know existed.
Would you also like to gain experience in a large, modern industrial environment, develop alongside dedicated colleagues and discover new career opportunities? Then a summer job at Östrand could be a great place to start.
