When trees are transformed into products such as decking, we make use of the residual materials and turn them into energy. Renewable energy that can replace fossil-based alternatives. Bark and wood chips are used directly as fuel, while sawdust and planer shavings are refined into pellets.
Residential pellets
SCA Pellets are manufactured from sawdust and wood shavings from SCA’s own sawmills as well as from other sawmills. When the wood residues are dried and compressed into pellets, they become a compact fuel with a low moisture content that can be used for heating in pellet stoves, residential pellet burners, and larger heating systems.
Pellets – making use of more of the tree
When sawmills produce wood products, sawdust and planer shavings are generated as natural by-products. We make use of these resources and use them as raw materials in our pellet production.
In this way, the same tree can be used for multiple products and applications. The timber can become building materials, while the sawdust and planer shavings are refined into pellets that provide renewable heating or energy for industrial processes.

Pellet
The raw material is dried, ground, and compressed through pellet dies. The pellets, which reach a temperature of approximately 100°C during the process, are then cooled and screened before being packaged or delivered in bulk by tanker truck or chip truck.
How pellets are used
Wood pellets can be used in several types of heating systems. In residential homes, pellets are commonly used in pellet stoves and residential pellet burners. Pellets are also used in larger boilers and district heating plants.

SCA pellet quality – high and consistent
SCA has more than 30 years of experience in pellet production. An important part of our process is maintaining a consistently high pellet quality. When used in a correctly sized and properly installed heating system, consistent pellet quality can contribute to more stable and reliable combustion.
SCA Pellets exceed the requirements of Swedish Standard A1. They offer higher energy content and a higher ash melting temperature, while maintaining a lower ash content. The raw material consists of sawdust and planer shavings from pine and spruce, with no additives.
Pellets are tested several times a day during production and are also regularly verified by certified independent organizations.
