SCA is Europe’s largest private forest owner, and many of our lands are well suited for wind power. Today, we are involved in several wind farms in northern Sweden, at various stages – from early planning to full operation. On our land, around 20 percent of Sweden’s total wind power production is generated, mainly from areas that we lease to project companies.

We are increasing our commitment to wind energy
To achieve the climate transition and strengthen Sweden’s and Europe’s strategic independence, society needs both to reduce its reliance on energy from fossil fuels and to increase the production of fossil-free energy.
Favorable conditions on our land
SCA’s lands offer excellent wind conditions, making them particularly suitable for wind power. We are therefore focusing on developing new areas where we see great potential for producing renewable energy. We already collaborate with various wind power operators by leasing out land, and we also invest in our own wind farms to supply our operations with renewable electricity.

Many industries in northern Sweden have the opportunity to transition to fossil-free production. What they all have in common is that they require large amounts of new electricity, which must be fossil-free. We want to help make this transition possible.
Wind power compensation and Community fund
A wind farm changes the appearance of the landscape. In the surrounding area, it may also generate noise and cast shadows. To ensure that those affected share in the value created by wind power, there is now a statutory wind power compensation scheme. In SCA’s wind projects, 0.5% of the wind farm’s revenue is also allocated as a community fund for the local community.
