Pellets are a standardized biofuel made from sawdust and planer shavings generated by the wood-processing industry. Through drying and compression, the raw material is transformed into a compact fuel that is easy to store and transport. SCA in collaboration with Moelven Pellets AB
Moelven and SCA have a collaboration agreement, where SCA is responsible for the marketing and delivery of the pellets produced by Moelven in Sokna and Karlskoga. Moelven produces 160,000 tons of pellets at our two factories. We have chosen to focus on our manufacturing process and have partnered with SCA for sales. This way, we ensure distribution through a strong and knowledgeable player who has a strong position in the market for this type of product.
Secure energy supply starts close to the source
In Valåsen, Karlskoga, and Sokna, Moelven produces pellets in direct connection with its sawmills, minimizing transportation and maximizing resource efficiency. By-products from the wood industry are transformed into valuable bioenergy through an integrated production process.
Using locally produced bioenergy such as pellets helps businesses reduce their dependence on imported energy and volatile global commodity markets.
Moelven Pellets, Valåsen Karlskoga
Moelven Pellets, Valåsen Moelven’s pellets factory in Karlskoga is fully integrated with the Valåsen sawmill.
The factory was commissioned in the autumn of 2024. The raw material consists of by-products, sawdust from Moelven’s sawmill in Värmland.
Bulk pellets deliveries are offered by boat from Vänerhamn or by bulk truck from Valåsen.

Sokna, Norway
Moelven Pellets, Sokna The first pellets deliveries from the factory at Soknabruket were made in 2020.
The pellet factory is integrated with Moelven Soknabruket AS, one of Norway’s largest sawmills. About half of the pellet raw material comes from the sawmill in Sokna. The rest comes from the group’s other sawmills in the region.
Bulk pellets deliveries are offered by boat from Drammen or by bulk truck from Sokna.
