We have to act in harmony with the society in which we operate in order to remain relevant now and in the future.
In order to understand the needs and expectations of us as a company, we conduct a lively and constructive dialogue with our stakeholders in order to continuously improve, develop long-term relationships and prioritize our initiatives in the area of sustainability. The stakeholders' most important issues in 2021 were the EU legislative package "Fit for 55", the EU taxonomy and the forest strategy.
Important issues concerning the forest were its role in the work to combat climate change, the preservation of biological diversity and forestry methods.
Strategic prioritized areas
The materiality analysis performed in 2022 concluded that SCA is considered to have the greatest impact in the following areas: occupational health and safety, climate benefit, and biodiversity.
SCA's most important goal is that all of our employees, and everyone who enters our sites, should return home healthy and unscathed at the end of the working day. The Group has a vision of zero workplace accidents. In order to develop our health and safety culture, we run the program ZERO. Within ZERO, we work to increase awareness and change behaviors.
Everyone must give the highest priority to work on health and safety, engage and take responsibility for the development of our common security culture.
The Group's managers are trained in change management to coach and encourage safe behavior. SCA also conducts training initiatives with regard to health and safety. Health and safety work at SCA's largest units is certified in accordance with ISO45001.
SCA produces and sells renewable products that can replace fossil-based alternatives and thereby contribute to reducing global warming. SCA also contributes to climate benefit through the net growth of the company’s forests, which absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, and by continuously striving to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its own value chain.
Forest is an important part of the earth’s ecosystem. SCA conducts responsible forest management to preserve and develop biodiversity and the forest’s recreational values while securing long-term access to renewable forest raw materials. The company plays an active role in developing forest operations that promote low-impact forestry methods and maintain or enhance conservation values. SCA encourages and helps other forest owners to adopt responsible forest management.
