Containerboard and sustainability
With the force of the forests, SCA creates climate-smart products that bind carbon, while at the same time recreating forests that grow and bind carbon. SCA Containerboards Kraftliner products, made of strong and renewable wood fiber, can replace more fossil-intensive packaging materials. We are also part of the transition to a circular society where all our Kraftliner products are recyclable.
We are a true sustainable partner for the future
- Being a wood-based product, kraftliner store carbon throughout the lifetime and can at the same time replace the use of fossil materials.
- The renewable wood fibre can be recycled several times securing raw material for new products.
- Our product portfolio and optimization expertise help you choose the right product and amount of material.
- Our commitment to bio-based fuels and enhanced production efficiency means that our paper mills have close to fossil free industrial processes.
- Our Kraftliner is produced at ISO certified facilities and with FSC® and PEFC™ product certification on request.

Efficiant use of resourse
Fresh Kraftliner is made from the parts of the tree that cannot be turned into sawn timber. About 50 percent of the tree is turned into sawn timber products and 25 percent is used to produce paper pulp. The rest is converted into renewable energy, biofuels, green chemicals and other sustainable products. Nothing should go to waste.

A growing, well-managed forest binds carbon
The forest is the base for sustainable packaging. SCA's forests are managed and harvested correctly and where forests are recreated. For every harvested tree, at least 2-3 new ones that are planted, securing forest growth for many years. The growing forest capture and store CO₂. SCA's growing forest images a net 5.4 Mt of CO₂ each year. The whole Swedish forest industry contributes about 93 million tonnes of CO₂e in climate benefits.

A flexible product portfolio
Our wide range product portfolio is adapted to suit specific needs. With an optimized packaging solution you can achive the least possible environmental impact and at the same time protect and deliver a product.

Mills run by biofuel
Our paper mills are state-of-the-art and constantly evolving. We make use of energy from the industry's residual streams. We are constantly working to eliminate the fossil emissions that still exist in our own value chain. We have invested in industrial processes fueled by renewable biomass from our forests. In fact, both of our SCA paper mills, in Obbola and Munksund, now have industrial processes mainly run by biofuels. Enabling boxes with the lowest carbon footprint on the market.

Initiatives in the value chain
Several different initiatives are underway to reduce emissions from transportation, like electric timber trucks delivering wood to the industries - an important part of the effort to reduce fossil emissions in the value chain. Another initiative is the installation of frequency converters in our own vessels that reduces fuel consumption.
