SCA continues to optimize transportation

SCA continues the work to optimize logistic flow for reduced emissions, improved cost efficiency and strengthening competitiveness. From October 1 st, 2026, SCA Logistics RoRo vessels, carrying kraftliner and pulp to Western and Central Europe, will be sailing to the port of Vlissingen instead of Rotterdam.

SCA has previously adjusted the RoRo traffic (roll on/roll off) in Sweden to enable operation at a lower speed and thereby reduce emissions by 40 percent per transported tonne-kilometre. The company's logistical optimizations now continue by making ship calls for pulp and kraftliner to Western and Central Europe to Vlissingen.

The change also applies to complementary bulk vessels.

“It is a short and easy port call for our vessels, which means that we save a couple of hours per trip. It is another way for us to make shipping more efficient and reduce emissions, which also ultimately improves our cost structure. We also believe that our already high delivery reliability can be even better,” says Magnus Svensson, Senior Vice President Sourcing & Logistics.

In addition to unloading kraftliner and pulp, SCA will also load recycled fiber, general cargo and RoRo cargo back to Sweden. In total, the company estimates a turnover of approximately 400-450,000 tons of goods per year in Vlissingen.

The logistics partner for SCA in Vlissingen will be Verbrugge, which has the largest hub for paper pulp in Europe and in nearby terminals they also have extensive experience in handling kraftliner.

“There are good transport connections by road and rail and the possibility of co-loading barges with other shippers to enable increased use of larger and more cost-efficient barges. We believe that this will give us larger opportunities, more energy-efficient and thereby more environmentally friendly means of transport,” says Magnus Svensson.
