SCA will commence an environmental impact assessment of a possible biorefinery in connection with the Östrand pulp mill in Timrå.

SCA has invested SEK 50 Million in a pilot plant for production of biofuels from black liquor at the Obbola paper mill outside of Umeå. This plant is now operational and will test technology for this purpose. Östrand is one potential site for a possible investment in the future. No decisions are taken.

"Permissions for hazardous operations and water operations are part of the conditions we need in order to evaluate a possible investment", says Björn Lyngfelt, VP Communications, SCA Forest Products. We know that permission processes may be time consuming and we need to start these processes in good time, before any decisions may be taken."
