Multi-million investment in SCA's pulp mill in Östrand makes it the world's largest producer of bleached barley sulphate pulp and more than doubles production capacity, from 430,000 tonnes to 900,000 tonnes.
The investment cost of SEK 7.8 billion makes the expansion of one of the largest industrial investments in Sweden throughout the ages.
Since the investment was awarded in August 2015, construction started immediately and it is estimated that it will take three years to complete. The new dry cleaner is first out and will be put into service during the second quarter of 2017.
The expansion means that SCA will deliver quality and world-class environmental performance products. In addition, we will be able to offer pulp that is bleached with the latest technologies (ECF and TCF) produced with raw material from responsible forestry. The factory will also be equipped with state-of-the-art technology to increase energy efficiency and minimize emissions to air and water.
Finally, Östrandsfabriken will more than double its deliveries of green electricity and district heating to 1.2 TWh electricity per year, which is enough to supply about 240,000 households with electricity.
