To an increasing extent, SCA's sustainability work is being evaluated by external assessors. Investors often base their investments on sustainability indices and rankings.

Forest certification

FSC®, Forest Stewardship Council® and PEFC™ (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification)

The management of SCA's own forests has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) since 1999 and according to the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC™) since 2011.

SCA's sawmills, Östrand pulp mill, Ortviken paper mill, Obbola and Munksund containerboard mills and the pellets production within BioNorr are chain-of-custody certified according to FSC and PEFC. The plants are provided with wood raw material from certified forests or with controlled wood, i. e. wood that does not come from controversial sources according to FSC Controlled Wood or PEFC Controlled Sources.

SCA's sawn timber, pulp, containerboard, publication paper and pellets can be purchased as FSC and PEFC certified products. SCA is one of the world's largest suppliers of certified forest products.
