The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation has raised formal complaints for poor nature consideration in four of SCA’s fellings and for SCA violating the FSC forest management standard. SCA confirms in a comment to the complaints that there are shortcomings in the nature consideration on the sites, but through setting aside forests with high nature qualities adjacent to the felled areas, the company has adequately protected the biodiversity of the forests.

SCA takes step into stores - produces solid-wood shelving for IKEA

SCA Timber has now taken a step into IKEA’s shelves in northern Europe with the solid-wood Gorm shelving unit. SCA Timber and IKEA have signed a long-term agreement covering delivery of at least one million shelves annually. SCA’s partner in Kramfors, Sweden, TräTeam, is investing SEK 35 million in equipment for manufacturing and ten employees in two shifts will maintain the shelving production.

On Thursday, 19 March, Norrbotten County Governor Per-Ola Eriksson and SCA CEO Jan Johansson inaugurated SCA’s new window components plant at the Munksund Sawmill in Piteå, Sweden. SCA has invested close to SEK 100 million in a plant for the manufacture of window components. The new plant will produce slightly more than 30,000 cubic meters, five million running meters, of window components in two shifts. Twenty four people were newly employed for the operations, an increase in personnel at the Munksund Sawmill of 20%.

SCA has completed the acquisition of Scaninge Timber’s sawmills after gaining approval from the Swedish Competition Authority. Effective 1 March this year, Scaninge sawmills Bollsta, Graningebruk, Rundvik and Vilhelmina are part of SCA Timber.

BioNorr invests SEK 60 M to double biofuel production

BioNorr, which has produced fuel pellets since 1992, is investing SEK 60 M in a new production line at its plant in Härnösand, Sweden. As a consequence, the capacity for production of fuel pellets increases from the current 80,000 tons annually to 160,000 tons.

New sawmill managers in Bollsta and Tunadal

Jerry Larsson has been appointed new manager at SCA's Tunadal sawmill in Sundsvall. He succeeds Ulf Larsson, who was acting manager. Jerry Larsson is currently manager of the Bollsta sawmill.

Final report on cancer cases at Ortviken paper mill. No link found to work environment

In a final report submitted to the Swedish Work Environment Inspectorate regarding the testicle cancer cases at the Ortviken paper mill, it was concluded that it was not possible to detect any link to the work environment. The preliminary results of all investigations were reported previously, but they have now been definitively evaluated and compiled.
