Intensive work is going on in SCA’s Tunadal sawmill with the SEK 210 M investment in a new automatic grading mill. SCA Timber has now taken a step into IKEA’s shelves in northern Europe with the solid-wood Gorm shelving unit. SCA Timber and IKEA have signed a long-term agreement covering delivery of at least one million shelves annually. On Thursday, 19 March, Norrbotten County Governor Per-Ola Eriksson and SCA CEO Jan Johansson inaugurated SCA’s new window components plant at the Munksund Sawmill in Piteå, Sweden. SCA has invested close to SEK 100 million in a plant for the manufacture of window components. The new plant will produce slightly more than 30,000 cubic meters, five million running meters, of window components in two shifts. Twenty four people were newly employed for the operations, an increase in personnel at the Munksund Sawmill of 20%.

2007-12-19: SCA raises the value of its forest assets
SCA is raising the value of its forest assets by SEK 5,200 million to SEK 23,300 million based on sustained higher timber prices.
SCA is also carrying out a number of measures to enhance competitiveness. The acquisition of Procter & Gamble’s European tissue operations this autumn generates significant synergies within sales and marketing, enabling an improved production structure amounting to a value of approximately SEK 700 million annually.
In addition, a review has been carried out of tissue operations that are not directly affected by the acquisition from P&G and within other business areas. The review has led to the Group implementing efficiency enhancements and impairment of some non-current assets in conjunction with restructuring. The cost of all these measures will amount to SEK 4,900 million which will be booked in the fourth quarter. Of this amount, impairment charges account for SEK 3,700 million and net cash expenditure after some disposals for SEK 700 million. The improvement in operating profit will have full effect after three years when it will amount to approximately SEK 1,400 million per year, including synergies from the P&G acquisition.

Munksund Sawmill seeking to increase production

2005-08-25: SCA to implement extensive efficiency enhancement program
With the aim of strengthening conditions to regain a favourable profitability SCA has decided to implement an extensive efficiency enhancement program. Measures to be implemented include phasing out of 350,000 tons of testliner and 100,000 tons of tissue, corresponding to 17% and 7% of SCA’s European capacity respectively. Technology-enhancing investments are being made to achieve improved product quality. It is assessed that SCA’s market share within corrugated board and tissue products will not be affected. The program, which will affect all business areas and 3,600 employees, is expected to result in annual savings of SEK 1,550 M when fully completed.

In a unique cooperative venture, three wood-processing companies in Ådalen, Sweden, together with SCA, have developed a consumer product that is now to be launched on a large scale in 200 building-materials stores throughout the UK. The new product is a modular system in impregnated wood for building terraces, decks and patios. SCA acquires BCL’s Stoke Distribution Centre
SCA Timber UK has expanded by acquiring the BCL Group’s Stoke-on-Trent central distribution site in a deal announced today, 2 May 2003. The 225,000 sq ft distribution facility currently serves timber product outlets such as major DIY retail chains and builders’ merchants. Some 114 staff from the former BCL facility will join the new organisation, other BCL staff remaining with the BCL Group. The new name for the Stoke operation is SCA Timber Supply Ltd: the company officially came into existence on 1st May 2003.

Final report on cancer cases at Ortviken paper mill. No link found to work environment
In a final report submitted to the Swedish Work Environment Inspectorate regarding the testicle cancer cases at the Ortviken paper mill, it was concluded that it was not possible to detect any link to the work environment. The preliminary results of all investigations were reported previously, but they have now been definitively evaluated and compiled.
