SCA's operations in the Sundsvall region is managed by the SCA Forest Products business unit. The business unit produces publication papers – newsprint, LWC and SC paper – pulp, solid-wood products and renewable energy. SCA Forest Products is also responsible for the forest management, wood procurement and for parts of the Group's transport and logistics.
There are strong links between the different segments in a value chain based on optimal utilization of SCA's own forest land.
SCA's greatest asset is rather unimpressive - a few millimeters long and a fraction of a millimeter wide. Wood fiber!
Whether obtained fresh from the forest or in recovered form, wood fiber is the base for our entire business and all of our products. Wood fiber originates in the growing forest. It is produced from carbon dioxide, water and soil nutrients in a process powered by the sun.
It is non-toxic and recyclable. When it has finally fulfilled its task and is burned, or decomposes, the residual products are the same natural substances from which it was originally formed. This wood fiber may become a wall panel in Japan, a magazine in Germany, a fruit box in France or a baby's diaper in Sweden. Whatever the end-product, the fiber has gone through a long process, every stage of which is crucial and demands a high level of expertise and detailed knowledge of the customer's requirements.
This process is so demanding and enthralling that we who are privileged to work with it prefer to regard it as - an art. An art that is at the heart of SCA Forest Products.
