Action program for fishing

Fishery conservation’s goal is for fishing to yield a favourable return as well high PR and recreation values. Within its own fishing license areas, SCA conducts fishery conservation measures to a reasonable extent.

Fishery conservation measures are taken as needed and carried out in consultation with the best expertise in the area.

Waterways in which efforts can be made:

  • flowing waterways (salmon, salmon trout,  grayling, crayfish)
  • lakes with natural reproduction (salmon trout, char, crayfish)
  • stocking in suitable waters (salmon trout, char)
  • in urban areas and easily monitored areas, put-and-take fishing (domestic species are prioritised).

Important actions:

  • measures to conserve biotopes, for example fishways, and removal of obstacles to spawning, such as improperly installed roadway culverts and restoration measures in old log floating channels
  • during road construction over large, flowing waterways, wooden bridges or half culverts should be used
  • fish stocking in cases in which long-term results can be expected
  • conservation of put-and-take waters where there is high interest from the public and employees
  • liming of waters with high nature values that merit conservation, in cooperation with municipalities and county boards
  • preparation of new fishery conservation plans as required in licensed fishing areas
  • information activities (fishing maps, etc)
  • monitoring of support that can be provided for fishery conservation measures, control actions and similar activities
  • supervision (fishery conservation).
