SCA uses ammonium nitrate, containing nitrogen and lime, in its forests. The lime prevents acidification in the soil and the nitrogen works as a fertiliser, keeping the soil more fertile.
SCA fertilises its forests three times, at 10-year intervals. The company always fertilises after thinning, and the last fertilisation is carried out about ten years before final felling takes place.
When we fertilise our own forests, SCA also offers fertilisation to private forest owners in the same area.
