Ecological landscape planning involves more than preserving valuable environments. Sometimes we have to regenerate certain environments to preserve biodiversity.
One example of rare biotopes is burned areas. Today’s forest fires are rare events, and quickly extinguished. However, some plants and animals depend on burnt areas or wood, and we carry out controlled burning to help these species survive.
Other examples of rare biotopes are hardwood forests, and pine forests with trees of varying ages.
