Dry Mixed Recyclables (DMR)

As a reprocessor in its own right, SCA understands quality. Quality is a key part SCA’s operations in collecting, processing and marketing your dry mixed recyclables.

SCA will handle DMR from Local Authorities and Commercial/Industrial customers.

Managing quality
As a vital part of managing the quality of your material, we monitor:

  • Material quality on receipt
  • Sample material as part of our input process
  • Sample output material
  • Receive regular reports and feedback from reprocessors

Technology and manual sorting
To achieve the best quality and lowest residue a combination of technology and manual sorting techniques are used.

The latest technology:

  • Screens to extract cardboard and paper
  • The optical sort of plastic
  • Magnets extract ferrous metal
  • Air extraction removes shredded paper
  • Screen to extract glass

Manual sorting:

  • Extracts major contaminants – large plastic and wood for example
  • Cleans up newspaper and magazine streams
  • Cleans mixed paper streams
  • Extracts plastic film and bags

We re-run material to ensure a clean product. Any residual material is baled and sent for energy extraction. SCA’s MRF is a zero waste plant.
