Luna – a first-class airlaid product
The goal of becoming the world leader in absorption started at SCA back in the 1980s during a development project that resulted in the FOSEC facility in 1992. Intense and extensive process and product development was under way for several years. Today, FOSEC is a high-tech, modern production facility with a capacity of 7,000 tons annually of the patented absorption product Luna.
Luna encompasses a number of different product areas adapted for various end products. One example is Luna Core, a semi-finished product with a pattern designed for hygiene care products such as sanitary towels and incontinence products. Luna is an airlaid material and, depending on the needs of our customers, the rolls are manufactured with either a smooth or patterned surface, in varying roll widths and diameters.
SCA Östrand develops this product in-house, using our own Star Fluff CTMP and processing it into an exclusive absorption material in roll form. Luna is characterized by excellent absorption combined with extremely high liquid-wicking properties. Luna has good runnability and is suitable for manufacture of a number of different end products.
We cooperate closely with the SCA R&D Centre and the world-leading Department of Mechanical Fibre Technology at the Mid Sweden University in Sundsvall. We also conduct development projects in cooperation with our customers to provide customized products for different areas. In addition, we offer a comprehensive selection of services, such as technical customer service and a highly developed distribution system.
