Processes for mechanical pulp, like CTMP, consumes a lot of electrical energy in the refining step. In the Star process we therefore use a unique technology developed entirely in-house – the so-called HT technology. By increasing the temperature above lignin’s softening temperature we can manufacture pulp with unique properties at the same time as we reduce the energy consumption in refining with up to 30% compared to traditional processes.
