Certificates

FSC®

SCA's forestry operations are certified in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This confirms that we fulfil the criteria for conducting responsible forest management.

The Östrand pulp mill has also been awarded an FSC Chain of Custody certificate. FSC accredited certification means that the forest of origin has been independently inspected and evaluated according to environmental, social and economic principles and criteria agreed by the Forest Stewardship Council.

This means that our customers can also meet the criteria to apply for FSC certification and to use the FSC trademark.

PEFC

Due to customer demand SCA Östrand also offers pulp certified according to the PEFC standard. PEFC stands for Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes. PEFC is the world's largest forest certification system.  PEFC standards seek to transform the way forests are managed globally – and locally – to ensure the environmental, social and economic benefits that forests offer.

The Östrand pulp mill has also been awarded an PEFC Chain of Custody certificate. PEFC's Chain of Custody certification is a mechanism for tracking certified material from the forest to the final product to ensure that the wood, wood fibre or non-wood forest produce contained in the product or product line can be traced back to certified forests.

ISO

SCA applies ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 as an environmental and quality-management system. The ISO 14001 certificate verifies that we meet the requirements of the international standard for environmental management.

The ISO 9001 certificate verifies that we meet the requirements for quality management. SCA actively participates in the environmental certification process and works continuously to comply with, or surpass, prevailing environmental regulations and our own environmental goals.

BfR

BfR is a product declaration issued per product and entails that we comply with German food requirements for product safety. We test our pulp regularly for content of heavy metals, dioxins etc.

Kosher

We have certification that verifies that our various pulps may be used in food production that is required to comply with Kosher criteria, for example, when our pulp is used for filters or tea bags. The certificate confirms that no animal products are used in our manufacturing.
