SCA is one of Europe’s largest forest owners, with 2.6 million hectares of productive forestland in northern Sweden, an area that is the equivalent of half the size of the Netherlands. Spruce, pine and birch fibres from our forestland provide the world’s best raw material for pulp.
With a time span of one hundred years from seedling to mature tree, responsible and
long-sighted stewardship is required.
At our tree nursery, 90 million seedlings are raised each year to produce new forest on SCA's lands and land belonging to private landowners in the region. We replace every tree we harvest with three new ones, either through natural regeneration or planting.
The forest is also the habitat for thousands of animals and plants. Whenever felling takes place, certain areas that are important for vulnerable species are saved. Old growth forests and other forest areas with high nature qualities are entirely spared from felling.
