SCAs greatest asset is rather unimpressive, a few millimeters long and a fraction of a millimeter wide - the wood fibre!
Pulpwood from the forest and chips from the sawmill are cooked to become kraft pulp, CTMP and airlaid at Östrand pulp Mill, situated close to SCAs extensive forests in northern Sweden. There, the pulp is tailored to suit the production of different products. Our three product groups are called Celeste, Star and Luna.
All our products have a very strong environmental profile. As you probably will appreciate, the pulp is bleached in an environmentally compatible manner, totally free from chlorine. Our 2.6 million hectares of forestland makes it possible to find the right raw material for the right product, and also to establish what can be harvested, what must be protected and what must be preserved. The forests of tomorrow must be equally as rich in wood, habitats and experiences as those of today. Everything living in the forest today must also find life environments there tomorrow. With this philosophy it became natural for SCA to get the FSC-certification in 1999.
We have produced pulp for almost 100 years. And yet our researchers and technicians can still develop new properties in the wood fibre. Naturally, to utilize all of the possibilities offered by wood fibre requires a great deal of experience, professional expertise and research.
We would even go so far as to call our wood fibre know-how an art!
