SCA Graphic Laakirchen produces SC paper, a high-gloss publication paper for magazines, catalogues and printed advertising material.
For decades the Laakirchen mill has been the quality leader among SC paper producers. The mill’s products in the highest-quality segment, GraphoNova and GraphoPrestige, have set a new standard within SC papers.
The SC standard products – GraphoGravure for rotogravure printing and GraphoSet for offset printing – are also regarded as the best choice by many of the mill’s customers among the leading publishing and printing companies.
GraphoVerde, with minimum 50 % recycled content is our newest contribution to the preservation of our nature.
Heat and pressure mould the character
SC paper is produced from a mix of spruce ground wood pulp, kraft pulp and filler – for the most part finely ground clay. In Laakirchen, a large proportion of recycled fibre is also part of the furnish. All the ingredients are mixed to form a strong, opaque and bulky paper that finally acquires its superior printing characteristics when it is pressed between heated rolls under high pressure.
Forerunner in the environmental field
SCA Graphic Laakirchen is playing a pioneering role through its environmental work. The mill uses a high amount of recycled paper for its production, without compromising on product quality. Laakirchen was the first paper producer using only totally chlorine-free bleached kraft pulp – of which Östrand pulp mill is a key supplier. By developing closed processes we reduced the amount of waste from the plant. This has been achieved by finding new applications for by-products.
