Paper from trees - Close to the forest
Paper from paper - Close to the consumer

Our fibre strategy means that we use only forest fibre in our Swedish mills situated close to SCA's large forestry holdings. At our UK mill, close to London's many consumers of paper products, we use 100% recycled fibre, and at our mill in Austria, which is situated close to both forestry resources and recycled fibre, we use a mixture of the two.

We produce FSC-certified coated paper and newsprint from fresh wood fibre at plants close to the extensive areas of forest owned by the company in Ortviken paper mill in northern Sweden. The large forest holdings provide access to top-quality spruce timber which enables Ortviken paper mill to base its paper production on fresh spruce pulpwood. The raw material is never more than three weeks old - from felling to mill. No other publication paper mill in the world can guarantee such high-quality raw material.

We also take an interest in the future life of the fibre. Aylesford Newsprint in UK, which has one of Europe´s most efficient paper machines bases its production on 100% recycled paper. The mill is located in a densely populated area with little forested land and was among the pioneers in developing the use of recovered paper as a raw material for newsprint production, and thereby contributes to the efficient management of resources.

Laakirchen paper mill in Austria uses a high proportion of recycled fibre in its production process without compromising on product quality. 25% of the paper weight is recycled fibres. Laakirchen was also one of the first paper producers to go over to exclusive use of totally chlorine-free (TCF) kraft pulp.

Our environmental policy is that we shall manufacture our products in a way that continually reduces their impact on the environment. Conservation of resources will be our guiding principle. Our long-term goal is closed processes.
