Perfectly finished printed products

SCA has in collaboration with the Web Offset Champion Group (WOCG) published a new guide with proven finishing techniques for web offset printing presses in its “Best Practice” series with the declared objective of improving the quality of printed products.

It focuses exclusively on the topic of “Print Finishing” and is entitled “Perfectly Finished Web Printed Products ”.

The purpose of this guide is to improve finishing stage of the printed product through better communication and understanding amongst all actors in the workflow - designers, publishers, printers and binders, as well as their suppliers.

Finishing operations can be either inline with the printing or through the use of dedicated offline postpress systems. Finishing appliews not only to magazines, books, reports, and catalogues but also to newspapers and their suppliers.

The two most significant factors that determine quality between printed products are the finishing method and the paper used. Finishing is the final assembly of a product that is a three -dimensional object which can be almost infinitely variable. It incites the job to be 'touched', at which point the paper adds feel to its perception. No other media can communicate with these senses.
