Tork and Mannheim University of Applied Sciences in Germany organised a unique toilet roll cover design competition. The innovative “Kloalabär” became the winning entry with its charming design of being both cool and practical.
The criteria’s were based on originality, functionality, suitability for mass production and even potential of the design to achieve cult status! German design student Martina Wagner was the lucky winner and received EUR 500 from Tork.
Playing with the words “Koala bear” and the German word “Klo” for “toilet” and “bär” for “bear” she named her design “Kloalabär”. Several thousand bears will be produced by Tork for the German market.
The judges received over 30 innovative designs which made it a real challenge for them to decide on just one winner. They decided on the “Kloalabär” as it carries a high level of both emotional and functional appeal. “The little bear does not look like a toilet roll cover at all, but comes across as an interesting gadget”, said one of the judges for the competition.
The jury were happy to see that the issue of washroom hygiene has inspired a firework of ideas among so many young people.
