New window components plant inaugurated in Sweden

Norrbotten County Governor Per-Ola Eriksson and SCA CEO Jan Johansson inaugurated SCA’s new window components plant at the Munksund Sawmill in Piteå, Sweden. The investment of nearly SEK 100 million creates 24 new jobs.

Window components from Munksund plant“Through this investment SCA forcefully demonstrates its commitment to hi-tech production and development in the northernmost region of Sweden. An increase of personnel of 20 per cent in a business that normally reduces staff is impressive and very good news in troubled times,” says Per-Ola Eriksson, Norrbotten County Governor.

Biggest investment so far

CEO Jan Johansson observed that this is SCA’s biggest investment so far in value-adding processes in the company’s sawmill operations: “It is particularly pleasing that we have made this investment in partnership with customers and that the full production for the first years is contracted. This is a venture fully in line with SCA’s strategy.”

”In principle, with the most modern technology we are producing window components resistant to rot of the same kind that skilled carpenters could do in former times,” says Anders Nordmark, Plant Manager at the Munksund Sawmill.

Efficient plant

”This is a highly efficient plant we are starting. I dare to claim that it is one of the world’s most cost-efficient facilities for production of window components. We have sold the total production for the first two years.

"We already have years of experience in production for the window industry. We have a suitable raw material for these products and the right equipment at the sawmill to produce them efficiently. Our ambition is to grow in this market and we have the possibility to increase production capacity in the new plant, which in such case could result in additional personnel needs," continues Anders.

”It is highly pleasing that we can make this investment in Sweden and under our own management,” says Anders. ”This shows that with the right technology, right expertise and the right products we are competitive, even compared with low-cost countries.”
