Sara Thorn, a creative young woman from Gothenburg in Sweden, proved that Edet Torky tissue can be used for more than cleaning up the kitchen. She makes colourful cloths and even a complete wedding set using SCA’s Edet Torky tissue.

Inspired by Taiwanese indigo dying
Sara travels often to Taipei in Taiwan and discovered the city’s beautiful handcrafts. She especially took a liking for indigo dying. So she started dying Edet Torky - “kitchen paper of sturdy quality”.
At home, Sara uses the paper stripes for table settings along with a linen cloth and serviettes. “It’s very handy to just roll out the cloth from the kitchen paper roll when it’s time to set the table,” she says.
Paper becomes fashion
She came up with the idea of making clothes with Eden Torky during a course in Dalarna, Sweden. “Everyone had to bring their own kitchen paper to spin and weave from. It was just I who brought Torky and it turned out to work just fine so my fellow students had to borrow some from me. It was the only paper resistant enough.”
They cut stripes and span on a spinning-wheel and used it as yarn. “I tried to weave and knitted a vest. It worked very well. I can even use the vest when it’s raining, the paper is strong enough.”
Paper white wedding dress
Sara has made quite a few things out of Edet Torky, e.g. a wedding dress and bouquet that took her 42 hours to finish out of two paper rolls.
When she made the dress she had the chance to try several different textile techniques such as knitting, weaving, lacemaking, crocheting and pleating.
According to Sara, Edet Torky proved to be extremely hard-wearing and durable and yet very flexible. The quality of the paper has made it possible for her to be very artistic in her creativity and still be able to use all the different techniques.
