Patrik Isaksson, VP Environmental Affairs at SCA, has been interviewed by the UN Climate Change TV at the 17th world climate conference - COP17* in Durban, South Africa.
He and Benjamin Gannon, VP Public Affairs at SCA, participated as accredited observers at the conference. Patrik took the chance to tell this online TV channel about SCA’s work to develop sustainable forestry practices as SCA is Europe’s largest private forest owner.
”We have actually, since we have a sustainable forest management, a net increase of standing timber in our forest corresponding to one percent every year”, says Patrik Isaksson. ”And this leads to an increased absorption in our forest land of 2.6 million tons [CO2] a year”.
* Since the UNFCCC entered into force in 1995, the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC have been meeting annually to assess progress in dealing with climate change. The COP adopts decisions and resolutions, published in reports of the COP. Successive decisions taken by the COP make up a detailed set of rules for practical and effective implementation of the Convention.
