November 19 has been announced as the World Toilet Day by the World Toilet Organization. SCA support this important mission and sponsored the World Toilet Summit & Expo in early November.

Improved sanitation in developing countries typically yields about nine dollars worth of benefits for every dollar spent. People without toilets at home spend at least 21 hours per week queuing up for public toilets or seeking secluded spots to defecate. Diarrhoea and respiratory infections are the cause of the death of almost four million children in developing countries every year and improved sanitation could save many lives.
The World Toilet Organization organizes every year a summit and exposition with the aim of giving more people access to a toilet. This year’s meeting took place in Macau and SCA, together with its global Tork tissue brand, was one of the sponsors.
“As one of the largest manufacturers of hygiene products in the world, we have human and business reasons to help call attention to the issue of hygiene,” says SCA President Jan Johansson.

During the WTSE decision makers, NGO’s and companies meet to discuss and give concrete examples on how the sanitation problem can be solved.
SCA participated with a booth at the exhibition where visitors were informed of the importance of good hand hygiene and how to reduce the amount of bacteria on your hands by drying them with tissue products. The visitors were also given the possibility to wash their hands and try some SCA Tork products. SCA’s global Tork tissue brand was introduced in China in late 2006.
“With our participation in the WTSE we help supporting this important issue,” says Anna Selberg, VP Corporate branding. “Simultaneously, we improve our knowledge of toilet hygiene around the world, which is part of our business.”
