Needs-adapted and purpose-designed packaging is a prerequisite for international trade and is thus a crucial factor in ensuring the welfare of the global economy. To an increasing degree, packaging is used to transport, market and sell its content. Packaging is thus an important carrier of the brand and market communication.

The two largest market categories for corrugated board packaging are the food and manu-facturing industries, which account for approximately 45% and 30%, respectively. The largest segment in the food industry is processed food, followed by fresh food and beverages. Consumer durables is another major market category, accounting for about 15% of the total market.
