The Ortviken paper mill produces coated publication papers, LWC and newsprint on four paper machines. The raw material is fresh spruce pulpwood, mainly from SCA's own forests in northern Sweden. The production capacity is 880,000 tons of paper.

The energy extracted from Ortviken's flue gas condenser provides surplus heat to the district heating network corresponding to the heating requirements of 5,000 singlefamily houses per year. The investment was a joint project with the Sundsvall municipality.

Ortviken is quality-certified in accordance with ISO 9001 and environmentally certified in accordance with ISO 14001 and energy certified according to EN 16001. Ortviken is also chain-of-custody approved in accordance with FSC and can produce FSC-certified newsprint and coated publication papers.

A decision was taken in 2007 to expand production of mechanical pulp at Ortviken paper mill. The new pulp plant was inaugurated in June 2009. The SEK 800 million investment will allow paper production at SCA Ortviken to continue to increase, while providing significant quality improvements.

SCA Ortviken has 740 employees.
