The Australian bushfires of the past week are seen as the worst natural disaster in the country’s modern history. Australians, no strangers to natural disasters, are shocked and saddened by this devastating event, which is ongoing with 21 fires still burning.
As of today, the known damage of the fires is that at least 1,831 homes and 450,000 hectares of land were destroyed, and at least 181 people are confirmed dead. The police are investigating how the fires started and exactly what and who was affected.
SCA Hygiene Australasia is doing everything possible to assist; the essential products the company provides are not only a necessity to those who have nothing, but are also in short supply in these areas which were emptied by the force of the fire.
This week SCA HA donated AUD 60,000 in cash to the 2009 Victorian Bushfire Fund that will use funds for immediate critical relief for bushfire victims. To date, SCA has also donated around AUD 40,000 worth of products including toilet paper, feminine hygiene products and disposable plates, cutlery and napkins. While SCA HA has made the above contribution, the company also encourage individual employees to make a donation if possible – no matter how small.
SCA’s Australian sites have not been damaged by the fires and no employees are reported injured.
