The World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) and SCA’s UK toilet tissue brand Velvet, have teamed up to find the ‘Velvet Young Nature Photographer of the Year’ in a photography contest. The initiative is part of Velvet’s partnership with WWF.

“The competition presents a fantastic opportunity for children and their parents to get together over the holiday and take advantage of the natural world on our doorstep whilst also feeling proud to be supporting a campaign that helps the environment,” says Traci Baxter, Velvet Brand Manager at SCA in UK.
Youngsters between the ages of four and sixteen have participated in the contest and there were two different categories to compete in: the ‘species’ category, encouraging photos of animals in your surrounding, and the ‘spaces’ category that includes landscapes and natural habitats.
Winner of the competition was nine year old Brendan Harper from Suffolk who captured a frog and frogspawn in his garden pond, participating in the ‘species’ category.
The competition was judged by a panel including representatives from Velvet, WWF and UK TV celebrity judge Philippa Forester, a long time supporter of WWF.
“Velvet’s photography competition is a fantastic way of encouraging children to get closer to nature. Getting children interested in nature and the environment is so important these days and this fun competition means they can not only win some great prizes, but also develop their photography skills and learn more about species, spaces and conservation at the same time,” she said.
The individual prize includes a weekend stay for a family in any of the four Centre Parcs villages in England and a “nature related experience”.
