“We are very pleased about having landed this new contract. It gives us much more flexibility for efficient portfolio management, which will improve the possibilities to control our price risks and also save money.” says Per-Erik Eriksson, Vice President Energy Procurement, SCA.

SCA’s contract with French Gaz de France also means that SCA help promoting new players in the German gas market.

The process to liberalise the gas market started a couple of years ago in Germany, but it has not until now been possible to achieve any real competition mainly due to lack of possibilities for new suppliers to utilise the gas transportation system. A new German law forces the gas pipe owners to let competitors utilise the system.

“SCA has worked on this issue for some time now, so it’s great that we finally accomplished to finalise this deal,” says Per-Erik Eriksson.

Gaz de France will start to supply gas to the following paper mills in Germany from 1 October 2008: Mannheim, Kostheim, Neuss and Witzenhausen, all SCA Tissue Europe plants, and also Aschaffenburg, SCA Packaging Europe.
