SCA among the world’s most sustainable companies

British consultant Innovest Strategic Value Advisors has ranked SCA as one of the world’s 100 leading companies with regards to environmental and social issues and strategic planning. Five Swedish companies were included in the ranking and SCA was the only company within the Paper & Forest Products category.

“We are really pleased that all the hard work that is continuously being carried throughout SCA is rewarded,” says Patrik Isaksson, Vice President Environmental Affairs at SCA.

Close to 1,800 evaluated companies

Innovest evaluates the companies’ risks and possibilities with regards to environmental, social and governance factors and believes traditional share analysis fail to account for 70 percent of a company’s worth, a fact that makes long-term sustainability a basic issue.

Innovest’s customer portfolio includes pension funds, consultants, industries and investment companies such as USB, Henderson Global Advisors, HSBC and BNP Paribas. Their analysis are often used as an add-on to traditional analysis.

The ranking of SCA as one of the world’s 100 most sustainable companies is motivated by a solid sustainability strategy, including sustainable forestry and a well-developed product certification.

SCA is praised for its effective use of resources through its large proportion recycling and use of recovered fibre. SCA’s high degree of self-sufficiency in energy and its methods to decrease its use of resourses are also considered on the positive side.
