Jan Johansson named “Man against the stream 2008”

If Jan Johansson can decide, there will be more female managers in SCA. In the current issue of the Swedish business weekly Veckans Affärer, he relates in conjunction with the award about the importance of having more females managers in the business world.

In addition to the title of President and CEO of SCA, Jan Johansson can boast another title, namely “Man against the stream 2008.” In the interview, he relates how important it is that there are more female managers, both to offset the “laddishness” and because it benefits the company.

Jan Johansson has worked in typical male companies such as Vattenfall and Boliden, but despite this he has always struggled to promote more women into management positions. He was involved in appointing Boliden’s first female mine manager and when he left the company in the autumn, there were three women in Group management. When he started, there were only men in senior management.

With regard to SCA, already this autumn he gave SCA’s HR managers the mission to review company culture and determine why female specialists and others at lower levels in the Group are not advancing in the Group.

In the same issue of Veckans Affärer, there is also a list of Sweden’s 125 most powerful women. Ingela Ekebro, Mill Manager at the Östrand pulp mill, was ranked 51.
