Ground-breaking ceremony at SCA Packaging Nantes

Last week a ground-breaking ceremony was held at the SCA Packaging Nantes Atlantique site. The new state-of-the-art plant is scheduled to be operational at the end of 2009.

Last summer, SCA decided to build a new packaging plant outside Nantes, France, and thereby replace the current Nantes-Cheviré facility. The investment will total more than EURm 46.

The construction actually begun already in January but at that time bad weather stopped any ceremony and it was postponed until June. The event gathered local politicians and journalists. A speech was performed by John D.Williams, President SCA Packaging Europe where he explained the dynamics of the investment. He also cut a ribbon as a symbol of the plant that is being built.

“We develop our plans for the new facility with the help of our customers, to meet the main challenges of the new millennium: sustainable development is an issue that has been a key concern at SCA for over ten years,” Williams said.

Contorta pine at the front

Once the plant is finalised a contorta pine will be planted in front of the building to symbolise cutting-edge industry, combining the need for yield and resistance with that of environmental protection and safety. The tree has been donated by SCA Forest Products.

SCA Emballage Nantes supplies market leaders in the French food-processing industry. The investment is made to better meet growing customer demands in this dynamic region. The new plant will focus on producing and processing corrugated board and will benefit from the latest technology in terms of both equipment and environmental protection.
