SCA signs historical gas contract
SCA and Gaz de France have signed a two year contract of 2.9 TWh gas. The contract means that Gaz de France will supply gas to all of SCA’s major paper mills in Germany.

Increased use of recovered paper in Laakirchen
SCA’s graphic paper mill in Laakirchen invests EUR 10m (SEK 95m) to increase the percentage of recycled fibre in its products. The aim is to reduce the energy consumption, the use of pulp-wood raw material and the carbon dioxide emissions – without compromising the high quality of the products.

Continued FSC certification for SCA
The outcome of the follow-up audit conducted in February by the certification firm SGS of SCA’s forestry operations, is that SCA will continue to be FSC certified. During an audit last autumn, SCA was cited for deficiencies in nature conservation, among other comments. A follow-up audit shows that these shortcomings are rectified or are in the process of being corrected.

The World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) and SCA’s UK toilet tissue brand Velvet, have teamed up to find the ‘Velvet Young Nature Photographer of the Year’ in a photography contest. The initiative is part of Velvet’s partnership with WWF.

Graningebruk sawmill completely burned down
At 5:30 a.m. the morning of 8 February, a fire broke out at SCA's sawmill in Graninge. When the fire services arrived at the scene, the building that housed the saw line was completely in flames. The damage was extensive.

Training and long-term, intensified efforts secure nature conservation work
At the end of 2007, SCA was criticized for deficient nature conservation in conjunction with certain forest fellings. The audit of SCA’s compliance with the Forest Stewardship Council’s (FSC) forestry standards also revealed shortcomings. Since then a detailed action program has been developed and launched to ensure that the mistakes made will not be repeated.
