March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the achievements and important role women play in making the world a better place. This year’s theme is “Be Bold for Change” and SCA has helped champion the cause, reaching out to stakeholders across the globe
Making waves in support of providing the same opportunities for men and women is something SCA is known for. This includes enabling the first all-female Team SCA to compete in the Volvo Ocean Race in over 10 years; we recently learnt that the race organization has now changed its rules to be more welcoming to female sailors. Last year we continued to break taboos around menstruation, with bold, eye catching and thought provoking campaigns like the Feminine brands’ Red.Fit campaign video “No blood should hold us back”
However, there is more work to be done with hygiene issues still holding both women and men back – our Hygiene Matters report revealed more than four out of ten girls in West and Central Africa miss at least one school day per month because they were menstruating and people with incontinence still feel a sense of shame and isolation.
